Nasolabial Lines
What are nasolabial lines?
Nasolabial lines are the creases that run from the nose to the mouth and can create a droopy, stern, and aged appearance. They result from fat pad deflation and bone reabsorption in the midface, which causes the nasolabial fat pad above the fold to lose its support and slump downwards and inwards to create a shadow.
How do you treat nasolabial lines?
It is important to treat the cause of the problem rather than the problem itself. Therefore, in most cases, it is advisable to augment the cheeks first with dermal filler. This will indirectly improve the nasolabial fold by providing structural support to the soft tissue in the midface, including the nasolabial fat pad.
Afterward, if the desired result has not been achieved, dermal filler can then be delicately placed next to the nasolabial fold to smooth out this crease and soften the dividing line between the mid and lower face.
By adopting this approach, less dermal filler is required to treat the nasolabial fold, which avoids creating heaviness or a puffy appearance in the centre of the face.
